With the economic downturn, hiring has almost frozen at several places, yet several top organisations, who do not want to miss the crème de la crème of the talent are looking for them at various renowned educational institutions. One of them is Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies (SS CBS) in Vivek Vihar in East Delhi. Here big companies like Mc Kinsey, C.B. Richard Ellis, A.T. Kearney, Bain Capability Centre, Grail and Futures First among others have given offer letters to 45 students. The highest salary package offered to a student is about rupees ten lakhs by Bain Capability Centre.
Nearly half the eligible students that opted for placement have already got enviable job offers. Prashray, a student and an active member of Career Development Centre, which is the placement cell of the college, says: "Students of our College are lucky to have been offered such good positions and hefty salary packages. Actually in our college several consultancy firms, whose involvement is needed mostly in difficult times, come for hiring. So these troubled times are somehow proving a boon for us."
The companies that have come are from various sectors including knowledge, financial services, information technology, investment banking, insurance and real estate. The packages being offered are better than last year.
Sonia Sareen, the placement officer of the college, says: "The first placement session began in October and ended in November. And the second began in mid-December and will continue till companies stop coming. Lintas was here some time ago and I have heard that they are in the process of short listing some candidates from our college. Despite bad times, we are hopeful that like last year, this year, too, we will have 100 per cent placement."
Vasundhara Jain, a final year student of Bachelor of Business Studies, has been offered a job of analyst with Bain & Company and she is on cloud nine. She says: "They have offered me a package of Rs. 7 lakh and have to join in June. We actually rank the companies coming to our college and the one I am joining was number one in my ranking. I still can’t digest it."
Her friend, Garima Bansal, has also been offered a similar job at the same pay package.
Himanshu Kapoor, studying Bachelor of Financial and Investment Analysis, is all set to join McKinsey in May. He has been appointed Junior Research Analyst with McKinsey’s Practice Research Group and offered a package of Rs.5.5 lakh that will be increased after a six-month probation.
