We can, we will

Fighting against terrorism is not only the task of government agencies and security forces. Each and every individual’s contribution is required to stop this menace

In the aftermath of the Mumbai terror attacks, several measures have been announced to shore up the security apparatus of the country. The government is making all arrangements to avoid a repetition of such attacks. But terrorism is something that cannot be fought by the security forces alone; the support of citizens is also needed.
Madan Mohan Bhatia, a resident of Vivek Vihar, believes that no matter how many more security personnel are recruited, it will never be enough. "The onus of protecting our country lies on the citizens. They need to be constantly vigilant. We should obey police advice and get our tenants and servants verified. Always keep one’s eyes and ears open."
Sameer Bhardwaj, a resident of Krishna Nagar, asserts that people who criticise the police should be asked what they are doing to protect the country. "Most of them do not even cooperate during police checks. I have often seen people arguing and misbehaving with security forces. We need to change our attitude towards them; we need to understand that whatever they are doing is for our security."
Neetu Singh, a student and a resident of Lakshmi Nagar, emphasises on building a spirit of patriotism among the youth. She says: "I think anti-terror studies should be there in the curriculum. It is time to introduce conscription. The young should serve at least a year in the army, it will not only inculcate discipline in them, it will help them understand the conditions under which our security forces work." As public transport is always used as a tool to unleash terror, Rajan Jha, a resident of Ramprastha, says: "We should always check under our seats and around us in public transport. Warnings advising people to do so are splashed all over but people rarely pay attention to it." Each and every person can make a difference in making our country safe and secure.
