Free eye camp at Kondli on Aug 18
A free camp eye would be organized at Kondli by Tarun Mitra Parishad in association with Mitthan Lal Jain Charitable Trust. General secretary Ashok Jain told that this 67th eye camp would be organized on August 18 at St. Suji Joseph Public School, Kondli, in which the medical team of St. Stephen’s Hospital will examine eye patients, provide them medicines and will select the cataract patients to operate them free at their hospital. According to convenor Deepak Aggarwal, all these patients will be provide free medical facilities, medicines, boarding – lodging, meals including lens. The camp will be presided over by the manager of the school RamDas Chauhan and Bir Sain Jain Kagji will be the chairman of reception committee.
Musical evening celebrates Varsha Ritu
A concert of Hindustani classical music devoted to rain songs and celebrate Varsha Ritu was held at I.P. Extension recently by Sangeet Surabhi in association with PSK. The concert featured classical singer Krishna Birdi of Trilokya Apartments in I.P. Extension. Birdi held the audience in awe as she traversed the notes of the octaves with the ease of an expert singer. She enthralled the audience with two khayals in Raag Kedar — Barkha ritu ki boondaniyan and Kangana mora at hi anmol. This was followed by Mausami Raag Soor Malhar — Badarva Barsan ko aai — and Bandishi Thumri in Dhanni raag, Sakhi maanat nahin langarva. After this she rendered jhoola geet — Jhoola dheere se jhulao. Balraj Batta, the anchor of the evening, spiced up the programme with Urdu couplets — Sangeet ke katore mein Ganga ka panni, hamne piya, tumne bhi piya, ye rab ki mehrbani.
Music lovers’ tribute to Kishore Kumar
The 78th birth anniversary of playback singer Kishore Kumar was celebrated by Kishore Kumar Memorial Club at Pearey Lal Bhawan on August 4. Hundreds of music lovers united together in paying a tribute to this legendary singer. The occasion was graced by film actor Birbal, pop singer Bhupi, Vipin Raheja, C.P. Sharma, Col. Kapoor, DCP Madhup Tiwari, numerologist Arvind Dixit, art promoter Nikhil Tripathi and Amarjit Singh Kohli.There were number of young talented singers who paid homage to their idol. East delhi based Sreeju Premarajan and Smita Singh drew wide applause from the audience by bagging the first prize in male and female singer categories, respectively. The orchestra support was extended by DoReMi. The function was conceived by Kamal Jit Dhiman and Mohd.Rehan, compered by IP Singh Bawa and Vinod Tiwari and orchestration was by Satish Popli of DoReMi orchestra. The founder general secretary of the society, Kamal Jit Diman, and chairman Nikhil Tripathi said on the occasion that government must honour Kishore Kumar with the Bharat Rattan.
Mayur Vihar Phase I office-bearers elected
Board of management of Mayur Vihar (Phase I) Pocket-III Apartment Owners Association was declared elected recently by the returning officer, O.M. Aggarwal. The office-bearers declared elected for 2007-08 are: President Subhash Chand, vice-president G. Sankaranarayanan, secretary Rampal Vasudeva, joint secretary K.H. Bhatia, treasurer S.K. Sharma, member constituency No.1 M.K. Sood, member constituency No.2 Veena Sharma, member constituency No.3 A.K. Gupta, member constituency No.4 C.K. Poulose, member constituency No.5 V.P. Mathur and member constituency No.6 Virender Sachdeva. If fact, all these 11 office-bearers were part of the panel last year and have been retained to represent the area this year as well. Out of 11 posts only joint secretary had to face the contest, while other 10 were elected unopposed.
Cultural show by Sushruti
Sushruti’ presented a cultural show on August 6, 2007, sponsored by the West Bengal Information and Cultural Centre. The evening was graced by sitar maestro Pt. Debu Choudhury and Manmeet Nanda, resident commissioner, West Bengal Information and Cultural Centre. The evening began with a vocal recital by Dr. Sharbari Banerjee and her disciples rendering compositions rich in the flavour of monsoon. Accompanying them on the Sarangi was Pt. Bharat Bhushan Goswami. The choir consisted of Arijeet, Sana, Piu, Aditi, Nirajita, Anushka, Sonali, Shalini, Vrinda, Balaka, Sudarshana, Neha, Akhila, Nishadh, Chander, Renu, Kolpana and Sushrant.
The next presentation was Vadya Vrinda conducted by Arunava Chanda in which his disciples, Shubhanker, Saurabh, Shouvik and Prateek indulged in very competent repartee on the Tabla with a scintillating performance on the Sarod by Shashank, disciple of Ustad Danish Aslam Khan. The concluding item of the evening, ’Gaurav Gatha’, traced the great moments of the Indian Freedom Struggle since 1857. The contribution of outstanding personalities such as Lakshmi Bai, Swami Vivekananda, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Chandrashekhar Azad, Bhagat Singh, Mahatma Gandhi and Rabindranath Tagore to the freedom struggle was brought alive on the stage by Ravi Chauhan through a gripping piece of choreography. The participating dancers were Suman, Nitin, Narendra, Sandeep, Satprakash, Umedh, Hema, Ritu, Pooja and Sutopa.
Annual function organised
Swaranjali, a school of dance and music in Swastahya Vihar and the only centre of Gandharva Mahavidyalya in East Delhi, has recently held its annual function in Sri Ram Centre at Safdar Hashmi Marg. The chief guest on the occasion was the director of Naional Bal Bhavan, Amita Shaw and the guest on honour was Rashmi Krishnan, the additional secretary (health). On the occasion, children between the age group of five and 18 gave remarkable performances in kathak, classical singing and with instruments. Ms Shaw, says: “Children have immense energy and talent and it should be channelised into right direction. They should be encouraged to learn classical music and instruments.”
Mayur Vihar SHO meets senior citizens
At the behest of the new SHO, R.P. Gautam, Mayur Vihar-I, pockets I and II, recently organized a meeting of senior citizens with him. The meeting is the first of its kind in the area. The SHO interacted with the senior citizens and asked for their suggestions to enable him to put an effective law and order mechanism in place. The suggestions made by the senior citizens included checking of rash driving by people on motorbikes, putting up barricades, increasing the security of the area and that beat constables not be changed frequently. The SHO assured that all the suggestions will be looked into and all possible help rendered to the senior citizens of the area. Prof. M.K. Kak, the president of Mayur Vihar Phase-I, Pocket-II, says: "He told the senior citizens to feel free to call him or any of the officials."
Worshipping Saturn
Sani graha moved from Kataka (Cancer) rashi to Simha (Leo) rashi on August 5. Hundreds of devotees participated in homams and abhishekams performed at Sri Sankatahara Ganapathy temple in Vasundhara Enclave for appeasing the planet.
Teej celebration at Dilli Haat Pitampura
Teej festival will be celebrated at Delhi Haat Pitampura from today (Aug. 11) till Tuesday (Aug 15). This celebration is taking place for the first time at this Haat. Jagat Singh, chief manager of Delhi Tourism, informed that the venue would be decorated in Rajasthani style to give a festive look. About 80 stalls of handicrafts and handloom producats and 20 stalls of food delicacies are being set up for the visitors. Variety of spices would also be on sale in exclusive spice market. In addition, stalls selling Teej related products would be the main attractions. Singh further stated that artists from Sahitya Kala Parishad and Punjabi Academy would be presenting cultural programmes daily. School children will also present cultural programme. The festival will remain open between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. and the entrance ticket will be Rs.15 for adults and Rs.5 for children. For East Delhi residents Metro rail provides a comfortable connection and an opportunity to enjoy the celebrations.
