Twenty five years is a pretty long wait for Ganga water but once people get what they want, they forget the problems they faced earlier. This is the story of Bank Enclave residents who waited for two-and-a-half decades to get Ganga water but now are really content and happy.
A.K. Puri, the secretary of Bank Enclave RWA says, "People began occupying houses in 1983 in our colony. A tubewell was set up to meet the water requirements of 306 houses. Things were going pretty fine but suddenly the tubewell developed some problem and people were not getting sufficient water. So four-five years ago, the Delhi government made the tubewell set up by the PNB Staff Cooperative House Building Societies dysfunctional and bored a new one with a chlorine plant." But residents wanted Ganga water and began pursuing the matter with the Delhi Jal Board. The matter was also raised with the MLA, A.K. Walia, who residents say was really supportive. K.L. Grover, the president of Bank Enclave RWA, says: "Though we were getting sufficient water through our tubewell we had to pay high electricity bills and running the tubewell damaged our electrical gadgets." The water pipelines that were laid in the colony way back when it was constructed were recently connected to the Vishwakarma Park underground water reservoir and now residents are getting six hours of Ganga water daily. Their happiness knows no bounds.
